Development

Our professional health education editors research, create and update our publications, which are then reviewed by health professionals who work in the field, and by audience focus groups. Statistics and recommendations in our materials are drawn from respected sources of health information, such as the CDC and NIH. We provide citations for the facts contained in our publications upon request.

Readability

Almost all our materials test below a seventh-grade reading level, and most rate between fourth and sixth grade. We use a set of criteria based on the Suitability Assessment of Materials (SAM) guidelines to support readability and comprehension.

Design and Artwork

We design our materials with care, to help readers digest and retain information. Our illustrations are created exclusively for Journeyworks to engage readers and represent concepts that would be harder to convey with photographs. We use illustrations that are diverse and inclusive, to ensure that readers see themselves and their communities in our materials.
